We are now in the midst of a whooping cough/Pertussis outbreak in Sampson county. Lots of young kids getting exposed due to unvaccinated contacts. You protect your children and infants, who die from this condition, when YOU get vaccinated. (yes grandparents, especially you). This is my med school classmate, Tom Clark, who is the chief guy on pertussis at the CDC on CNN explaining it all. The risk of the vaccine is way below the benefit of preventing infant deaths. And Sampson and Duplin counties are getting hit with it right now. In all my years of doctoring I hadnt seen one baby die of whooping cough like they used to die in bigger numbers before the vaccine, until now.
