We are saved by the FAITH of Jesus not our faith in Jesus! There is a huge difference between the two. To be justified means to be saved. So now consider this! Galatians 2:16 16 Knowing that a man is not justified (saved) by the works of the law, but by THE FAITH OF JESUS even WE HAVE BELIEVED IN Jesus Christ, that we might be justified (saved) by THE FAITH OF Jesus and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 1. We are saved or justified by what Jesus has already done and not by what we do! But it goes beyond this! Q. What in particular has Jesus done to justify and save us? 2. Justified (saved) by the Faith OF Jesus! It says this twice. But yes it also speaks of the human response Even we have believed in Jesus So it speaks of the faith of Jesus and then us believing in him. But please dont miss the point. 3. The saving cause and agent is THE FAITH OF JESUS and our believing in him is the subjective response and experience. Now let me put this into some logical form -A- Objective faith first!! Gods initiative. Grace 4. Its is the faith OF Jesus that saves us. This is finished. Objective and complete. Subjective faith: our response 5. When we hear the Gospel the good news about the faith OF Jesus that has saved us it is then that subjective faith is birthed in our hearts as a free gift and we experience it! Faith comes to us by hearing the word of the Gospel Romans 10:17 6. So the objective faith of Jesus which is full and complete in the past and finished is real whether I believe it or not 7. But when I believe in the faith of Jesus I experience it and it changes my life. But it is true regardless if I believe it or not. There are things that are real whether we believe it or not but when we know and believe it then it changes my experience. I may have 1 million dollars in the bank ... But if I dont know about it or believe it then I dont benefit from it! But I am still a millionaire even if I dont know it or believe it! The objective faith OF Jesus becomes an experiential subjective reality when we believe it! But it is still true and the results remain the same whether I believe it or not! We have all been already justified and saved by the FAITH OF Jesus. Look at this carefully Acts 13:39 and by him everyone who believes is FREED from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. The faith OF Jesus sets us FREE but it is believing in Jesus that makes us FREED Free refers to objective reality The slaves are free! Freed means you experience it! The former is the faith OF Jesus and the latter our experience.
