We as a generation seem to have forgotten how to talk to our children ,its almost as if we are somehow guilty as parents.Guilty of being ourselves ,I guess. The other day ,I was trying to concentrate on the patients problem while his little girl was jumping up and down on the weighing scales making a lot of noise.I was worried that I will miss something and make a mistake and of course the scales will break. So I asked the little girl not to jump and sit down next to her dad. At this point,to my utter shock, dad turned to the little girl and said I will buy you one when we get home.I was so surprised at this response from dad that I said you know its okay to tell your child there are some things she cannot do.No response from dad who clearly thought i was some kind of living fossil. This was a country were children were supposed to be seen and not heard and by a strange paradox of events our children are exactly that nowadays because their heads are always buried in some or the other latest gadget. Also children in victorian england were not allowed to sit at the dining table ,they had to stand and eat at the table and usually had leftovers which resulted in malnourishment. This country in trying to run away from such a past and in a great rush to appear fair and modern has now labelled all parental intervention as -abuse .where does that leave the children I wonder .A ship without a radar is bound to run aground. Some parents sadly are so worried of doing or saying the wrong things or worse have so little time for their children that the children do not get any guidance at all .and what sort of parents will these children become?
