We as citizens of Pacific Island States are fortunate that we have - TopicsExpress

We as citizens of Pacific Island States are fortunate that we have the liberty to vote for our government and to voice our own opinions in regards to how we are governed, how our govt. utilise its resources etc. . However, we must be mindful of the fact that some of our cousins across Wansolwara/Moana Nui are still entangled under the yokes of colonialism. Their voices are still being oppressed by the various colonial powers that exploit them. Our cousins from West Papua are still under the control of Indonesia whereby they have been exploited via extrajudicial killings, natural resource extraction that undermines their identity, affinity to their land (vanua) and culture. As a student of The University of the South Pacific Alumni Page (one of the regional institutions in the Pacific), I call upon our leaders/student leaders across the region and within the 14 Campuses from the 12 member countries of USP on where do they stand on the issue of West Papua. If we are genuine in terms of regional solidarity, will we continue to be complacent on the cries of our cousins in West Papua in their quest for self determination? Will our governments continue to undermine our regional solidarity just for diplomatic relations and aid from Indonesia? We as Pacific Islanders are custodians of our sacred Wansolwara and the time to act is now. Therefore as part of the regional We Bleed Black and Red video viral campaign, I am requesting the following people to stand with me & the other cousins from across the region as we raise our voices in unity with the people of West Papua. I nominate the following people, Waicalanavanua Kepa Western Rock) - President of the USPSA iTaukei Students Association, Whitlam Utuala Saeni - USPSA Federal Chair, Anasimeci Wasasala L, Alekisada Imanueli Taletawa. Koroi Cakacaka Tikoilomaloma & John Sinavi - ( Sodelpa National Youth Council Forum ) and Lela Lella Suguturaga to join me in uploading your video clip or placard advocating for West Papua. Dont forget to #IStandUp4WestPapua and #WeBleedBlackAndRed. https://youtube/watch?v=7KRJLnWXp1I
