We at IU Health La Porte Hospital celebrate and honor the life of David D. Kramer - the first administrator of La Porte Hospital in 1966 after two hospitals merged. “David Kramer’s contributions to the healthcare landscape in La Porte County are so significant. In healthcare, we know what it feels like to be working in an environment that is always changing in big ways. But without a doubt, the foundation that David and his colleagues left for us is strong enough to take us far into the future, and we are grateful for all his contributions,” said G. Thor Thordarson, president and CEO of IU Health La Porte Hospital. “The merger of Holy Family and Community Hospitals was one of the first of its kind in the nation. It had come about after years of wrangling and negotiation. The two hospitals were very competitive, and he had to find a way to blend them together and become a part of a unified entity. That was a huge accomplishment, but he also had to lead the effort to design and create the new hospital facility that incorporated many innovations and new concepts. He did it, and he did it with class. We are indebted to him,” said Leigh Morris, who succeeded Mr. Kramer as hospital CEO.
