We become affected by our moods in direct proportion to the extent that we are identified with our minds. Through meditation and or chanting comes the realization that the mood is not YOU. The real YOU is eternal, perfection, unchanging, joyful and at peace and the thought that generated the mood is simply a transient epiphenomena of the brain. The relationship with the mood then becomes separate from you and you can observe it and challenge the thoughts by asking inside what would I have to believe in order to feel this ? and how would I want to feel instead and so what thoughts would help me to feel at peace now
