We did it for Hip-hop, we won best Rap Album, we made history at the MMAs and Id like to thank you... Wow, words cannot express my gratitude for helping me overcome the odds and rise to the occasion when no-one believed it was possible. I went to Durban to collect an award you put my name on but to my surprise everyone there didnt think I stood a chance. They didnt know that I had your backing and support all the way. In an industry that is all about media hype and publicity stunts they didnt think that the people would choose quality over gimmicks and talent over buzz. What the media didnt do was listen when I told them that this year is the year of the underdog. In the end the people have spoken and thats what makes the Metro FM awards so special. Its the biggest ceremony of its kind and I got to leave it a winner thanks to you. I just thought Id let you know that youve won my heart by showing me that I can count on you when the chips are down! Hip-hop held its own on a Kwaito dominated night and Id like to congratulate Ifani on his four nominations, to me hes the best newcomer. After performing to the millions of viewers at home hes now a force to be reckoned with and not just the new fresh face in the game. The game is like high school and everyone always roots for the new guy until the next new guy comes but I believe this guy (disguiz) wase bhayi will have the country dancing to iingoma ezimnandi... for years to come. uMamfene uyizalile iGorilla nyan-nyan! L-Tido rose to prominence around the same time I did and hes proved that he has staying power, something he should be as proud of as I am. I admire his tenacity and self-belief because those are the hallmarks that are needed to leave a long lasting legacy. A great competitor whose respect I hope Ive earned. Khulichana has managed to do something not my rappers can do and thats transcend genres to become an iconic figure in the South African music industry, something Im still working on. May god continue to bless him. Id like to congratulate him for winning big at the Metro FM Music Awards and being nominated at the Black Canadian Awards, thats that #ChanaPower! As for myself, Id like to congratulate #TeamKwesta (thats you) for making South African music history this past weekend. DaKAR (DaKINGofAfricanRap) became the first and only digitally released album to win a major award at the 13th Annual Metro FM Music Awards and that is a big deal. As Id said before my team and I have only one mission and thats to revolutionise the game just like we did at the Metros. Its nice to see a good plan come together and I hope that we can inspire the change wed like to see in this industry by leading the way. Next week Thursday well find out who the SAMA nominees are and although the judges decide who wins there I have faith that theyll stick to the criteria by rewarding the most deserving work and not just the most prominent artists... 2013 was a year in which a lot of new faces came to the fore and the next generation stepped up to the plate to up the game. The SAMAs is where well find out who made the most impact and Im hoping Ill be amongst the nominees. More over I hope that Hip-hop will be shown the respect it deserves and take its place at the forefront of youth culture. Till then though take care of yourself and if you havent done so already, check out some of the free content Ive posted online for you to enjoy using the links provided between now and the 30th of March.
