We do not care if these are called parables or allegories. We think these are tremendous stories. Variations on a common theme, about what divides Heaven from Hell, and, how one’s life long development of character enables or disables them in the hereafter. The Allegory of the Long Spoons leads here. We highly recommend as companion readings Allegory of the Long Spoons by Rabbi Haim of Romshishok, text available in Wikipedia, and, The Parable of the Long Spoons, iciclefund.org. In the 1940s, the brilliant fantasy writer C.S. Lewis wrote a series of segments in an Anglican newspaper which were later published as his book The Great Divorce (still in print!). Part of this imaginative adventure is his insight that people imprison themselves in Hell and are the keys to their own liberation into paradise. Much theology has, and still does, dwell on the ideas that on earth we accumulate so much grace in proportion to so much sin, and in an almost financial calculation, God, the Almighty Accountant, calculates what our afterlife will consist of. These stories offer refreshing alternatives. We hope you enjoy. [link originally posted by Kissing Fish: christianity for people who dont like christianity]
