We found a good quality high speed video of Short Circuit transfer for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) aka MIG. You can see the arc, the weld pool and droplets which remain on the tip of the filler wire until such time that they touch the weld pool and detach. For short circuit transfer to occur there must be local heating of the wire just above the droplet (caused by short circuit) and a pinching force caused by the magnetic field around the wire (Lorenz Force). The droplet size detaching is larger than the than the diameter of the wire. To give you an idea of how slow this video is, the droplets detach on the order of 10-20 times a second. See our other posts about spray and globular transfer modes in GMAW. https://youtube/watch?v=i_edwUW92u0
