We give Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters 2.75 out of 4 stubs. Compared to the first Percy Jackson film, this film is much better; however, the film changes a lot of things from the book, so true fans will most likely continue to be disappointed with the adapted screenplay. As far as family friendliness, overall it was okay. With the mythological monsters and references to relying on the gods of Olympus, this film may be offensive to some and/or too intense. Our recommendation is for 5th grade and higher, but you may want to be prepared to have some family discussion as to the religious beliefs of the Greeks compared with your own religious beliefs.
