We had a productive planning meeting today at All Souls for our Panel Discussion tomorrow night. We will have some media presence and are gaining some attention although we do not have a count or estimation on how many will be there. If you wish to attend, it is free but Id recommend coming early. This is NOT an anti-gun rally but a pragmatic discussion of what we face now and may see in the future. The things I hope everyone takes from this panel discussion are: 1. There are over 300 million privately held guns in the US. About 9 for every 10 citizens. There is no real way to disarm the US. 2. Most of this gun-zeal is fed by nonsensical paranoia. We have our great US Legislators who are telling us that the UN via Obama and the Arms Treaty are out to take our guns. NOT true. Also the Federal Government is NOT coming after our guns. It is amazing that our senior senators have been in DC as long as they have and are still telling us to fear our own government. Maybe it is Inhofe and Coburn we should fear. 3. The US (in spite of being a God-Fearing and loving country) is one of the most violent in the world. 4. Our paranoias are are as baseless as the Mountain Beast in the movie "Lord of the Flies". Tragically we are allowing those baseless fears to cause us to surrender our civilized behavior, just like the boys did in that movie. 5. This is a societal issue, get involved and be a part of the decision of "What can we live with?" Currently, the NRA is the big decision maker on this problem. Thanks and hope to meet as many of you as I can tomorrow night. Rex
