We had lunch with friends yesterday and got to talking about how much easier our lives are today than they were for our mothers. My friend told me that when she was growing up on the farm her aunt and uncle lived on a farm across the road. Her Mom and her Aunt put their money together to buy a gas powered washing machine and they shared it by passing it back and forth every week. Once her Mom was done the laundry she would load it up on the stoneboat and hook the horse up and drag it across the road to the Aunt so that she could wash her clothes. Clothes were hung outside to dry even in the winter when they would freeze-dry.
