We had the good fortune to see 20,000 Days on Earth at its Sundance premiere in January. Now it comes to theaters in the U.S. this forthcoming week. youtube/watch?v=Ap0_y5EGttk If you have the opportunity and its playing in your area: Really see it. It was one of our favorite films of the huge number we saw in Park City, and for good reason. Its an absolutely captivating portrait of a man that hybridizes fiction and non-fiction, reality and narrative, and small spontaneous moments with completely scripted ones. Unlike anything weve really seen before, its one of the rare films that finds the sweet spot and hits home at something genuine in the art of creation. 20,000 Days on Earth explores thought, inspiration, and creativity in all arts- music, painting, filmmaking, dance, and writing- in an intimate and revealing manner through its muse Nick Cave. What the film reveals, while nothing spectacularly plot-driven, is how hard-fought genius really is, and how it both strengthens and alienates us as people. Really a spectacular picture. Check it out.
