We have a possible connection to the Governors Oil and Gas Task - TopicsExpress

We have a possible connection to the Governors Oil and Gas Task Force. In July I spearheaded the movement to have Erie BOT vote down Encana’s drilling permits. We were not against fracking, we argued for safe and responsible drilling. We held meetings, created petitions, and sought advice concerning the permits, COGCC regulations, and the Erie MOU. I attended a COGCC meeting. Fifty plus Greeley residents spoke out against the oil and gas industry and the COGCC and nothing happened. I learned Colorado regulations are very gray, allowing companies to pick and choose what to follow, and are rarely enforced by the COGCC. In this I worked with Matthew Sura, Attorney, and CURRENTLY A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNORS OIL AND GAS TASK FORCE. His purpose on the task force is to represent both affected communities and residents. His insights were a major contribution to our presentation to the BOT in August (can be viewed at Erie’s website). We have more rights than we think we do, and the BOT also has more rights than they realize. Mr. Sura has agreed to speak to our group if we are interested. He can help us get organized in a very poignant manner. We need to have a concise message, yes about noise, but also safe practices from here on out. Mr. Sura has offered his help in formulating this message. I am waiting to hear when Mr. Sura will be available, I believe it will be late next week. I need to know who would be interested in attending, and if you are currently a part of the email list that was created this summer. I also would need a facility for our speaker. In July the HOA president requested we not use the Community Center. We quickly moved to the Golf Club but it was a tight fit. Now that the number of concerned residents has grown, I wonder if we might again try to use the Community Center, however, capacity may be an issue there as well. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
