We have a very weird scenario shaping up for the weekend into next - TopicsExpress

We have a very weird scenario shaping up for the weekend into next week. Two areas of low pressure will merge off the Oregon coast on Saturday and will encounter resistance from the strong ridge of high pressure. This will lead to an increase in cloud cover along the coastline and some drizzle. This low will fizzle out and be absorbed by the high. By Sunday, the computer models present different solutions. A third area of low pressure will migrate out of Canada from the northeast with an uncertain track. If you believe the GFS (American) model it has the low tracking SE from Canada on Sunday across Idaho and into the great basin of the Rockies. This would place the Rogue Valley and much of Oregon in a dry slot and we will see mainly cooler temperatures but little chance of showers. The ECMWF (European) model is more bullish and tracks the low across eastern Oregon, thus bringing with it a chance of snow showers across the higher terrain of eastern Oregon. The one thing that is certain is that we will remain under the influence of this pesky ridge until at least Sunday evening. The eastside will see very cold temperatures at night dropping possibly into the single digits for some locations. Overall our weather here in the Rogue Valley will be mainly clear skies with temperatures in the mid 60s and cold nights dropping into the high 20s. The main ray of hope is that by mid next week models are indicating a marginal chance for rainfall across the westside. Enjoy the sunny skies this weekend and wrap your outdoor faucets in preparation for cold weather.
