We have been made aware that stray animals are being found and not reported or an owner sought. This is not acceptable. By law if you find a dog then you MUST inform the Dog Warden. If you fail to do this then you are guilty of theft. If you find a cat or any other pet animal or bird then you also have a responsibility to try and find an owner, get it scanned for a chip and put up posters with your details and that of the animal in the area it was found. There are a number of pages like this on social media sites to try and help reunite owners with missing pets and many people have camera phones that can be used to help in the process. If you find an animal please dont make assumptions that the rightful owner does not care. If it is in bad condition or has health issues it may have been out for some time, or very old or receiving veterinary treatment. Not to do yuour best to reunite a pet is cruel beyond words when there may well be a grieving owner out day and night trying to find their pet. If anyone from an animal rescue advises you not to contact the Dog Warden regarding a found dog then please ignore them and advise the Dog Warden of what you were told so that action can be taken.
