We have been successfully manipulated into a behavior that has become ubiquitous with thinking one thing, and stating something entirely the opposite, to what follows as advancing a behavior of thinking the opposite to what is actually true, followed by convincing others to the contrary. This analogy serves to illustrate a frightening scenario in that if 10 million folks are brainwashed into thinking something is true by repetitive proclamations in the media or by the leadership, then it must be so since the flawed assumption is 10 million folks cannot be wrong and those in positions of leadership do not lie. Rather, if one person or a small group of folks identify empirically derived, factual (truth) evidence to the contrary, they must clearly be wrong since they are out of step with the majority and leaders; hence they are perceived as a threat to the controlling factions, a potential threat to national security, are attacked, discredited, and ultimately rendered insane. If I taught my students only one principle, it was to gather all available facts, establish the truth, and question the veracity of anyone who exhibits ulterior motives, especially those in positions of authority. …dmv
