We have just received our annual benefit package for 2015. It is time to select a health care insurance package. In reviewing the options we can get the plan with the most medical coverage, including prescriptions, for $173.08 bi-weekly ($4500.08/year) and dental for $19.58 bi-weekly ($509.08/year) and vision for $4.74 bi-weekly ($123.24/year). This is a total of $5132.40/year to provide medical (including prescriptions), dental and vision care for both Brenda and me. I have also looked into dropping my employer provided plan and going with traditional Medicare and supplements. I received a proposal from my good friend Blake Roberson, an agent for State Farm. The premiums for Medicare Part B would be $104.90/month and the premium for the best coverage of a supplemental plan, Part F, would be $206.63/month. I would also need to add Part D for prescriptions for which the premiums would vary depending on the benefits chosen. These premiums would cover only one person so to provide insurance coverage for Brenda and myself the premiums would be double. Guess I will need to stick with my employer provided insurance for now. This is extremely difficult and complicated for me to wade through all the options of benefits vs premiums. I cant imagine how many with less understanding of the health care system than myself handle this. HR 676 would be so much more economically sound, so much simpler, so much more humane. HR 676 would provide comprehensive medical, dental and vision care with no premiums, no copays, no deductibles, no medical bills...all for a tax that would be much less than the premiums quoted above or the premiums that 98% of us are paying for the poor benefits that we currently receive. Why is it so difficult of the public to see? Why is the public not demanding single-payer?
