We have no way of really knowing, but it is quite possible that Barabbas was a very attractive, charismatic individual as far as appearance goes. He may have had that unique ability that some people have to make a good first impression on others. And he may have had a very likable demeanor about him that naturally garnered acceptance and gave him favor among men. But what we do know about him is that, beneath the surface, and despite how he might have appeared, he was a murderer and an insurrectionist. Each one of us has had our own personal Barabbas...a false identity or persona that weve put forward and projected to the world for the purpose of making an impression, and behind which weve hidden. We may as well go ahead and admit it, because its true, whether we want to accept it or not! But multiplied times throughout our day, were given the opportunity to choose between Barabbas and Christ; between the image weve created for ourselves, or the Image which God intended for us to bear.
