We have returned from the Grand Canyon! What a crazy adventure - TopicsExpress

We have returned from the Grand Canyon! What a crazy adventure that we will never forget. It was everything I expected and so much more. We covered over 100 miles down the Colorado River in the heart of the Grand Canyon. Ill give you a quick glimpse of DAY 1: It stared with a 12 mile hike from the South Rim. I was irritated that we had to wake up at 4:30 AM to start our vacation! It was a guided trip and they were giving us 7 hours to make it to the bottom. The kids and I wanted to sleep in and catch up but Scott insisted we start with the group. I married him for his brains and good looks! I quickly realized, you start early because of scorching, mind melting, life sucking heat. We made it down in about 3.5 hours but the last mile felt like we were being baked in an oven at 350! We then got on rafts, excited for the adventure and frigid water that was 51 chilly degrees. We immediately bombed through several very, scream-at-the-top-of-your-lungs, BIG rapids (Horn Creek, Granit and Hermit) and got soaked. We went from the oven to the freezer! Shortly after the rapids, a monsoon hit unbelievably hard that first afternoon, and left us spending several hours shivering in the rain, wishing we had packed some warm clothes! When we finally laid down to sleep, it was warm again and the stars were out in full force. It was the first of 7 very memorable nights. The challenges are what made this trip our families favorite summer vacation. It was a brutal and yet spectacular at the same time. We saw countless unique and unbelievably beautiful sights while rafting and hiking...slot canyons, oasis in the dessert, 100s of waterfalls erupting from the edges of the canyon walls as it rained, vivid turquoise mineral-laden water, and hiking on what seemed to be the edge of the earth. Life can be the same way...brutal and spectacular. I love how the Lord can take the difficult things and make them beautiful. He beautifully shaped the Grand Canyon and we all stand back in awe and wonder. He is beautifully shaping each one of us. I always say, the best parts of me come from the challenging, hard, and difficult places in my life. As you look back on your life can you see how He has beautifully shaped you?
