We have the pitter patter of clomping big dogpaws in our house - TopicsExpress

We have the pitter patter of clomping big dogpaws in our house again. Matching almost none of the traits we were looking for except being a lab, we have taken on Bear, a 95lb moolokah of a boy who just needed help. Poor Bear has been thru at least 3 or 4 houses this year that we can track down and at least 6 total and 5 vets for one visit only. He also had at least 5 or more names.... He has never been taught how to be a big dog in the world and I can already picture him hanging out in the Jersey Shore with all the other mafia Jersey boys (he might be nicknamed Tony) Bear has never been taught quite how to behave and the last home he lived in, he got no attention for quite awhile so you can imagine how wound up he is/was. Lets just say that he had 2 speeds, maniac and dead asleep. Not much sleep the last few days, but he mostly settled down last night. He has about every bad habit out there except that he is housetrained. But he is whip smart and loving and just needs to get his mind right and settled down which he is already doing well at. He is 3 year old yellow lab who should be about 85 lbs once he gets the exercise he needs and very tall. As many in the dog rescue community probably know, there is a saying that you get the dog you need, not necessarily the one you are looking for, so apparently, we needed lots of bumps and bruises (and stepped on private parts) while getting Bear under control, but at the end of the road, everyone who has met Bear can see what a special boy he is underneath the maniac who lived without rules for so long. If we can get him to settle down in the next couple days, will have to post some pictures, he is a handsome fella!
