We have two great theatre arts camps left this summer at HeARTsong Creative Center, 125 West Needles Avenue in Bixby, and wed love for you to join the fun! Enroll at heartsongcreativecenter IMPROV IGNITION: July 28th - Friday, August 1st, 3:30pm to 5:30pm, Ages 10-18, $75 Develop quick thinking, comedic timing, teamwork skills, and bravery through the fast-paced and unpredictable art of theatrical improvisation! This improv class, specifically for teens, explores improv games, techniques, and concepts in a fun, supportive environment. Students will become more spontaneous, creative, playful, and imaginative, all while developing valuable theatre and interpersonal skills. Utilizing the educational approach originally taught by Viola Spolin at Hull House in Chicago, this highly interactive class teaches participants the foundations of improv: support, trust, listen, agree, and focus. Working together to create original scenarios off the top of their heads, students will exercise their imaginations and truly listen to one another as they collaborate. Workshop ends with an exciting showcase performance for family and friends on the last day of class! Monday, August 11th NEW YORK THEATRE: Monday, August 11th, 3pm to 5pm, Ages 12-18, $25 Professional New York City actor Weston Kemp will present this fascinating workshop designed to give young aspiring actors the REAL scoop on what it takes and what its like to be a working actor in the Big Apple. Topics covered will include the realities and logistics of moving to and living in New York City, actor training programs and schools in NYC, auditions, agents, head shots and resumes, basic actor survival tips, and much more. Plus, Weston will share fabulous stories from his NYC auditions, rehearsals, and performances as well as leading students through engaging acting warm-ups and exercises used by professional actors. Weston is a 21 year old professional actor originally from Clarksville, Arkansas. A former student of HeARTsong director, Ginny Sains, Weston was a member of Ginnys Stages Theatre for Youth company at the University of the Ozarks from the time he was four years old until he graduated from high school in 2011. Immediately after high school graduation, Weston auditioned for and was accepted into the prestigious and historic Circle in the Square Theatre School, located in the heart of the Broadway Theatre District. On his own, he moved over a 1,000 miles from home to begin his life as a New Yorker. Since his graduation from Circle in the Square in the spring of 2013, Weston has been working successfully and making his living solely as an actor, appearing in numerous commercials, television episodes, and stage and film projects. Weston is an incredibly enthusiastic and engaging teacher and he loves working with young performers!
