We have very sad news: last night, SDR foster dog Kiva passed away - TopicsExpress

We have very sad news: last night, SDR foster dog Kiva passed away after suffering from massive internal bleeding likely caused by a tumor on her spleen. Foster mom Annette was with Kiva throughout the afternoon and evening, loving her and caring for her until her last minutes. Well miss our spunky, loving senior girl, but we know that shes happy and free on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Kiva joined Summit Dog Rescue last spring, rescued from a Colorado shelter in terrible shape. (As you can see from the last photo) Her coat was matted, covered in maggots, and she was overweight and all around neglected. But after joining SDR, Kiva was transformed! From underneath her matted coat, we discovered an amazing, adorable dog — completely trusting of and loving all humans, despite what we can only imagine her past had been like. Her favorite things were to go on long, brisk walks, go on hikes with her foster mom around the Nederland area, and cool off in mountain streams. And, of course, getting pets, cuddles, and snuggles from foster mom and every human within petting vicinity! While Kiva left us too soon, we are so happy to have been able to show her the love and kindness she deserved in her last few months of life. And there are so many people to thank for that: Emily W., the SDR director, Rachelle, her first foster mom, Emily B., who took many of the amazing photos of her, and – of course – Annette, Kiva’s second foster mom and ultimately really her forever mom, who gave her a loving, comfortable home--full of fun times, beautiful hikes, and tons of snuggles--for her final months on this earth. Rest in peace, Kiva. We love you and we’ll miss you.
