We just concluded our Annual Public Meeting. Here is a summary of 2013 at Gander International Airport, presented in 154 words: - The airport posted a modest operating surplus on revenues of $8.3 million. This represented the GIAA’s ninth consecutive year of profit. Revenue increased $490,000 over 2012. - Passenger traffic at Gander grew 6% over 2012 - the highest passenger totals at Gander since 1989. International traffic remained down significantly over historic levels. - The airport authority completed phase I of a 150-acre business park, expanded its passenger parking by 150 lots and undertook other modest facility improvements. $13 million has been spent on capital projects over the last two years. - The priority going forward is to construct a new, right-sized air terminal building. The terminal, opened in the 1950s to cater to the level of traffic of that day, cost $1.7 million to operate in 2013, including a heating/electrical bill totaling almost $900,000. An external firm will complete a site selection analysis and conceptual design for a new air terminal building by the Fall of 2014. The full copy of the Annual Report will be available on our website in the coming days.
