We just had a truck from the Salvation Army come by to pick up some donations. Three guys came up to my door, one had a smaller frame but the other two looked pretty strong. My kids and I walked them to the garage and began carrying things out with them. One of the guys was with us in the garage while the other two carried things to the truck. At one point my eldest son freaked out when he moved a box and a giant spider ran out from underneath. It was a daddy long leg spider but much bigger than the average sized ones we normally see. I told him not to be afraid. The guy who was working and moving things around suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. He was watching the spider and seemed fascinated by it. My kids were still a bit freaked out too. So, I thought to myself, here is an opportunity to calm down my kids and shatter a few stereotypes for women (and Muslims) everywhere! :) I took the invoice paper that I had been holding in my hand the whole time and scooped up the friendly arachnid. It quickly scattered across the paper and forced me to rush towards the tree where I was going to release it. I had to get by the worker who was watching it all happen and as I came closer to his direction with the paper he freaked out and in his burly voice said Woaaaahhhhhhhh there... and started backing up. Hahaha. It was quite a funny scene to see a big guy who moments before was lifting up heavy objects suddenly do a side-step shuffle and a little squeal all because of a spider! :) Of course, to preserve his manliness, I pretended not to notice and proceeded to act freaked out myself, adding a little tremble to my voice for the added effect! :) I couldnt help but smile to myself though when I walked back towards the house moments later...haha #hijabis #shatteringstereotypeseveryday #takingonefortheteam #whydospidersscaresomanymen
