We killed the dodo bird. The quagga. The passenger pigeon. The thylacine... and that is just to list a few... soon the wolf will join their ranks, a species wiped out by greed, destroyed by fear, hated by ignorance... Soon, driven by loneliness, the last howl will fill the sky as an icon of old tries one last time to reach its own. The howl will start strong but end sad. A note so wretched the hunters will smile in triumph, the activists will tear in sorrow, the children will sign in ignorant relief as little red riding hood never sees a wolf again.... and the original Americans will feel a piece of their history ripped from their souls. In that one last howl of the wolf asking one simple question- is anyone out there? All he will hear in return is the bay of the hounds... the creatures men created, a creature with common ancestors... and his own kind will be forced to betray him. But he had to howl, he had to know... maybe there was just... one more?
