We know by now that to lose weight, we need to use up more - TopicsExpress

We know by now that to lose weight, we need to use up more calories than we take in. This may lead you to believe that you need to monitor and count all of your calories in and calories out. I prefer you to arrive at a calorie deficit as a by-product of the program, NOT as the whole program itself. Here are 10 reasons I do NOT count calories - 1. We are only ever guessing how many calories we need. Typing your age, height and weight into some sort of calorie calculator, does not take into consideration how much lean muscle mass you have. 2. We are only ever guessing how many calories we use up. Even if we are using a heart rate monitor or checking the calories burnt on a cardio fitness machine - GUESSING at best. 3. We are only ever guessing how many calories are in our foods. It is well reported that food labels can be out as much as 30%. Especially if the foods are labelled outside of Australia. 4. You cannot calculate the AFTER BURN effect of exercise (EPOC), unless you are hooked up to fancy (expensive) scientific laboratory equipment. 5. Counting calories does not take the THERMIC effect of food into account. This can make up 30% difference in your calorie intake 6. 1000 calories of one food can leave you hungry and craving for more food, and 1000 calories of another food can leave you STUFFED and not looking for more food for hours and hours 7. Some calorie choices will leave your insulin low and stable - keeping you in fat BURNING mode. Some calorie choices will spike and crash your insulin - putting you in fat STORING mode. 8. It takes away your power to TRUST and listen to your body, your natural hunger and cravings levels. 9. Its hard and time consuming. 10. It can drive you CRAZY.
