We live in a culture of self-appointed critics and in an atmosphere of criticism: in the workplace, in our churches, and in our marriages. And yet, God calls us to be encouragers, not critics – to build up, not to tear down. One of the best things you can do for your marriage is to resign as your mate’s “Holy Spirit” – to stop looking for and calling attention to faults and failures, and instead to look to the things that you can praise and encourage. Then as you leave the rest to God, you can watch Him work miracles. So become a “Barnabas” – an encourager, and rest in God’s ability to deal with your mate so that you are released to love. This marriage insight is brought to you by Dr. Richard Shropshire of The Barnabas Center. For further information or to make a counseling appointment, call 228-392-2608.
