We made the decision early this morning due to crap weather to leave the glaciers a day early and head towards Queenstown while the highway was open. Left late as the 9am chopper flight was cancelled due to rain - but it briefly cleared at 10.30 so got a quick flight in over the glaciers including a landing on them. Unfortunately i could not go as have had middle ear infection for 2 days. Antibiotics will want to kick in soon or I will go mad! Anyway, kids and John and had fun and Tayah got to sit in the front next to the pilot! Hit the road and drove the Haast Pass - landslides and all. Scary stuff! I can see why this road is always closed from 6pm - 8am every day and was shut for 12 days straight. Made it to Wanaka where we are staying tonight - then head to Queenstown tomorrow - only and hour and half from here. Tayah injured her back in Haast climbing under a corrugated iron sign in a rush to get to playground - poor baby, it is quite raw and very inflamed. She is currently soaking in the large spa here recovering.
