We must also be factual in reporting that slave traders were also assisted by African Chiefs and Kings who were both greedy and who because of tribalism thought this is the best way to deal with their opponents. In slave trade you had the buyer and the seller, and sadly the seller was our own African brothers and sisters. This was before colonialism. Its clear without the colaboration with African tribal authorities of the time we wouldnt have seen human traficking on such a large scale. This is because slave traders didnt travel deep inland to get slaves, they would meet them by the sea being delivered by our own. The danger in Africa and the failure of the African Renaissance lies in the fact that Africans are predisposed to group themselves according to their ethnicity, which is usually smaller groups rather than as a collective unit. And these groups are usually at odds with one another. We might blame colonialism and Imperialism all we like but truth is, this behaviour is what gave a platform for colonialism to succeed. America wouldnt be selling guns to rebels if there were no rebels. Look at whats happening between North and South Sudan. Look at the genocide. Africans have a long history of fighting one another at times even for the pettiest of reasons. This is partly why Africa was a quick target for colonisation, they couldnt fight together. In SA there couldnt resistance against the british and afrikaners because they were fighting tribes. You had a unit of people fighting a moriah of smaller groups and tribes who at times were fighting one another. Had they united, history surely would have been telling a different story. Infact in SA we must thank the African National Congress that was able to break this ethnic divide and managed to unite South Africans behind a common goal. When the ANC was formed you had people from all backgrounds and walks of life pledging themselves to fight for the liberation of this country. How i wish the African National Congress could have been formed 200 years earlier than it was. For surely we could have realised freedom much more earlier than we did. Perhaps we wouldnt have had a 1994 but a 1794. It is progressive liberation movements like the ANC that are needed in Africa. Dont tell me about those that incarcerate their opponents and kill them. Those things are no different from slave traders and are sending Africa backwards, they are the stumbling blocks of African Renaissance. #To be continued.......
