We need Madera County to be working with and have a local union trade school for our residence. A JROTC in our high schools so free education in available though this avenue. Education is the only way we will move out of 6th place in the least educated cities in America. Madera, California Bachelor’s degree or higher: 13.0% Median household income: $39,758 (36th lowest) Median earnings – bachelor’s degree: $49,994 (90th highest) Poverty rate: 23.6% (21st highest) Low college attainment rates likely explain, in part, the low incomes in Madera. A typical household in the area earned less than $40,000 in 2013, one of the lowest figures in the country and considerably lower than the national median of $52,250. Nearly 24% of area residents also struggled with poverty, one of the highest rates nationwide. Madera, which is also the Spanish word for wood or timber, once had a flourishing lumber industry. Now, Madera has a diversified agricultural industry. Nearly one-quarter of Madera’s workforce was employed in agricultural, forestry, and mining sectors, the highest proportion in the country. Like several other cities with low educational attainment rates, Madera also has a relatively large immigrant population. Last year, an estimated 16.2% of the area population were not U.S. citizens, one of the highest percentages nationwide.
