We received this email from the angel who was the first at the scene at Brents fatal accident. I wanted to share it to those of you who have reached out to us. Dear Reverend Davis, After reading Brents obituary I feel compelled to write in hopes that I may be of comfort to his family. I was the first person to come upon Brents accident. I will let you decide whether to share this email or not. I am a librarian and worked until 6:30ish before driving 15 miles from school in Monterey to home in Mill Gap. It was a beautiful evening, warm and already colorful. I love the Lord and on the way home I sang to myself a familiar tune, Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. I was grateful and prayerful on my drive home. A few miles from home along the curvy part, I noticed leaves and branches in the road. I pulled over. I walked back and saw Brents blue car off the road just a ways over the hill - not far off but a bit over. It was still light out and very very quiet. The car was not running. There was not steam. There was just beautiful light coming through the trees and it was quiet. I just want his loved ones to know that he must have passed instantly. It was clear that this crash was fast and violent. I want to imagine that Brent was enjoying the beauty of the drive as much as I was that evening and then hit a curb where he could just couldnt maintain control. Anyways, the whole time I was there and when I drove home to call 911 and then when I returned to the accident, I was very mindful of the Lord, doing my best to be prayerful and aware that this persons spirit presence was likely still in our earthly realm (Im saying that in hopes you wont think Im a nut). Since then , Ive called to mind the ending scene of the movie American Beauty. All good Highland County country folk were there to attend to this accident. I didnt stay once most emergency people showed, but my neighbors who stopped are all good caring people who were respectful, concerned, mindful of how serious and sad this accident was. He was surrounded by good people. I want Brents family to know that he couldnt have been in a more beautiful setting during his last hour or so of life and he couldnt have been attended to by better folks. Again, I will trust your judgement about whether you want to share this with Brents loved ones. For what its worth, our families may have a bit in common. I graduated from UGA in 1985; My husbands high school St. Christophers is in the Prep League with Blue Ridge; I have family who in live in Hilton Head. So, even though I am now a woman of the country after 20 years in Highland, I have been thinking of this family as if they are somewhat familiar to me. I also have considered that I was Gods instrument that evening. You can probably tell that this event has impacted me and Im trying to work through it in this rather funky way. Im thinking it might help - if not them, at least me. Well, I will be thinking about you all as you celebrate Brents life. Thank you for taking time to read this. I hope you dont think I am way off base to be writing you. Take care and with love, Gods love especially to Brents loved ones, Julia Blanchard
