We saw Edge of Tomorrow last night with Tom Cruise. Worth the - TopicsExpress

We saw Edge of Tomorrow last night with Tom Cruise. Worth the money? If you go to the drive in and see both movies, yep, worth the $4 per movie but if you go an only see it, is it alone worth the $8, no. Maybe $5 worth. What is it? Groundhogs Day meets invading alien things. Little kid friendly? No. Listen, Cruises character dies a lot. He even gets killed by his co-star, a lot, on purpose. Did I like the ending? Yes and no. The ending was good. How the movie actually ends, I hate when they do that. Room for a sequel? Im not sure how, unless the sequel is less action adventure / sci fi and more romantic comedy. If they stick with the format for a sequel, I see a straight to DVD (doesnt even make Blu Ray) release. Supporting characters: For the first part of the movie about all we see is Cruise and a few bit characters, and we see it over and over (ala Groundhogs Day). It actually gets quite tedious, both for Cruise and even more so for the audience. Yes, we need to know the characters for later... but a few less loops would have been okay. Finally, we pick up the female lead and FINALLY we start to have something that makes sense. During these loops there are even a few twists that do add to the story. Overall, it was an okay movie but nothing special in my book. Again, Groundhogs Day meets aliens. It does get tedious with the early loops and the story doesnt pick up until the female lead comes on scene. However, it is pretty predictable, save for a few things. I think if they had got on with the first part and moved into the second part, a little more of the story, especially between Cruise and the female lead, could have been developed more. I have to say, this is very recent Tom Cruise. Lots of Cruise, very little anyone else. If you are a Cruise fan, that is probably good. If not, well, yeah.
