We should finish up most of Season Three of The Sarah Jane Adventures -- which is great quite a bit of the time -- and possibly hit Waters of Mars tonight. Meaning were about to end the David Tennant /Russell T. Davies era, and I have to admit, I utterly enjoyed it this time through. But I still hate all the romance crap with Rose, I really do. It just bogs the storylines down and diminishes the greatness of Martha and, ultimately, even Donna. Im glad well get closure with Donna, who might be the best companion ever because she changed for the better the most (possibly) , making her tragedy even worse than Jamie and Zoes. And I have to really give it to Davies. He does the show a great service by making it look like a 60s DOCTOR WHO comic with all the glorious primary colors and shadows. Not a lot is said about the look of the revived series, but its success relies so much on Bryan Hitchs initial concept art, which looks like his astounding work in comic books. His season finales, while sometimes hit too high for him to bring down completely, are so the stories Davies thought up for the show when he was a kid brought to life. That may explain the failings in their resolutions, but they always maintain that wouldnt it be cool if... passion. But itll be nice to sit back and watch just a bunch of DOCTOR WHO for a while. We start Matt Smiths first season (hee hee!) right after the regeneration. No other shows in between. Going from show to show makes for a very, very interesting contrast in approach and philosophies, but doesnt really add much, although seeing The Brig for one last time was extremely moving. And as bad as End of Time sometimes gets, Tennant does manage the best regeneration of them all, so far. Beautiful and operatic, and it allows Davies to end so many characters stories. Just thinking about how many characters that weve been watching for about two months will finally be disappearing for good is sort of overwhelming. But thats what the show does. It breaks your heart, this one. I mean, it mends it pretty quickly, but...
