We spent several weeks studying Wassily Kandinsky, and there is a great deal more to see from each of his style periods. Kandinsky was forced to flee Germany with the outbreak of the Great War as an enemy alien. First to Switzerland, then returning to his Russian homeland after the Revolution to briefly join in the artistic bureaucracy. Eventually he migrated back to Germany as a central figure in the Bauhaus school, before the rise of the Nazi Party sent him scurrying to the suburbs of Paris, where he lived and painted in his well-known mature style until his death in 1944, at the age of 78, as a French citizen. Wikipedia has a fairly good, rather comprehensive encyclopedia entry on Kandinsky and his work. For a quick, one-page overview, this one will do: abcgallery/K/kandinsky/kandinskybio.html To see more of his works in an easily accessible way (thumbnails for the most part) try the-athenaeum.org/art/list.php?m=a&s=tu&aid=11 Wassily Kandinsky Compostion VII 1913 oil on canvas 200 x 300 cm The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow
