We started from OSU 17th and Southwest BLVD at 8am with bagels, bananas, bottled water, energy bars, etc. It was 45 degrees at the start with a NW breeze. I started at the end and passed 43 riders in the first 20 miles. At the 25 mile mark I passed a group of 25 riders in the 36P group. The turn around was at the 33 mile/half way point just north of Bristow, Ok. Finding that I was the first or second one to reach this rest stop, I determined there was about 70 people riding. The pedaling continued to be relatively easy as I made the return trip north on Hwy 66. The trees were in transition with nice rust, red & yellow tones. As I headed north from Sapulpa, there was progressively more clearing on either side of the road which, in addition to the developing stiff NW wind at mid day, caused much resistance to forward motion! Had it not been for the final slog of 12 miles, my average speed would have been extraordinary! At the finish line they were waiting in a parking lot with a nice certificate of completion and your choice of a ham or turkey sandwich box lunch. We also received a t-shirt and goodie bag at registration. Not too bad of a value for 25 bucks also including food and water stops in Sapulpa, Kellyville and at the turnaround point! Much improved from last year. I will prioritize this ride in the ranking of annual bike tours.
