We stood silently watching the in coming storm. Cold winds whipped - TopicsExpress

We stood silently watching the in coming storm. Cold winds whipped the trees as it advanced upon us. Thunder and lightning flashed and roared through the heavens. "The Thunder is not happy my friend" I said as I placed my hand on his thick strong neck. I could feel it quiver at my touch. Aye he felt something was wrong. My eye looked through the gathering storm but it was beginning to rain. Not just any rain but one that spoke of .... by the Goddess! I turned and grabbed my sword and strapped on my left hip. My hand then reached for my shield. By all that was Holy..why would she be coming here...now... I gripped my beasts main and with practiced ease I mounted my war horse and we charged out into the storm. They were here and they were in pursuit of someone. We moved as one, he and I. Seasoned Warrior both. The forest around us was lost to the driving rains and wind. I could hear the howl of those creatures I had fought so many times in the past. I gritted my teeth as we charge forward. Then I saw her. Her small pony was laboring hard and in great fear. The Healer was gripping the reins hard in her fists as they tried to stay ahead of the roaring pack. I pulled my sword and centered my shield crying out. Charging past her I met the pack head on. My sword flash from one side to the other. My war horse stood with me and added to the mayhem slashing with his iron clad hoves. My attack surprised the Shadowen but not for long as they regrouped and came for me. They held a hatred of me for the destruction of many of their kind. My sword began to turn blue then white as I fought them as rear guard. We gave ground only a little at a time. I wanted her to be safe within the wards. One of the creatures sprang from a near by tree nearly knocking me off my beast. Its teeth sinking into my shoulder. The pain was immediate as my shield rose to met his next attack slicing through its neck. I howled out my rage and doubled my attack as they could smell my blood and increased their frenzy. I cursed and swore that they would pay dearly for my death, Just then a streak of pure white lightning struck into their mist sending many into panic. Some of them burned an unhealthy green as they screamed their rage before falling. Then another and another bolt struck into their massed bodies. I still fought on until I heard a voice say.. "Move that carcass of yours. I can not do this all night." Hearing these words I wheeled my beast and still cutting my way through their mass. Breaking free we charged for the safety of the forge as more white bolts flew past us. We charged for the safety of the wards. With the storm raging around us we flew as if we were hunters of the sky. The pain in my shoulder soon made itself known as we breached the wards. The creatures who followed to closely were vaporized as they hit the barrier that protected my home. I slowed our pace as I saw the wagon and a hard breath pony. Catherine stood on her wagon, her hands and fingers spread wide. They glowed from the power she had summoned. "By the Great One. What was so important that you had to come here in this storm!?" I yelled as I dismounted moving towards her with sword gripped firmly in my hand...I did not hear her answer as I collapsed from the poison that now flowed in my arm. .
