We wanted to once again provide this information to our hundreds of new members. This has been posted as a pinned post on our Facbook Group for months,but we realize that some mobile users may not see this. It is very important that everyone understand what Hip Donelson is all about, before they post. Please read this in its entirety before you post. We are more than a Facebook Page…We were the very first of the “Hip” sites started in 2009. We had hoped that those who came after us would share our commitment to community service and many have. Of the many “Hip” sites now, Hip Donelson is the only IRS Tax Exempt nonprofit organization (501(c)6, driven by a hardworking Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors governs each and every Hip Donelson decision and activity; it’s not one person, but many. For a complete list of our board, visit hipdonelson.org/about/board-of-directors/ We promote our local businesses…A big part of our mission has always been to promote our locally owned businesses in Donelson. We have never charged a business for promotion on our site…ever. Businesses within Donelson or Hermitage may promote themselves up to two times in a seven day period without posting on consecutive days. We have a free program where we award stickers to Hip D Approved businesses that meet certain criteria. Once or twice a year we have a call for sponsorships for our T Shirts. These sponsorships receive advertising on the back of the shirts, but that sponsorship does not give the business any other special advertising privileges on the site. Our Terms of Service are very clear. The Board of Directors has, at the request of the Hip Donelson membership, decided not to allow online or multi-level marketing (MLM) posts on our site. We give back to our community...It has always been our mission to give back to our very own community. Hip Donelson has administered nearly $45,000 in direct benefits to our local schools, nonprofit organizations and, in some cases, individuals. These numbers do not include the more than $50,000 we have spent to bring the Farmers Market to Donelson, nor the thousands of dollars to support our local businesses (Small Business Saturdays, Hip D Supports Local, Cash Mobs, etc). Hip Donelson is 100 percent volunteer- no one gets paid. In 2014, volunteers contributed more than 3,000 hours to the Farmers Market alone! We are more than “one” Facebook Page…Obviously, we have the Hip Donelson Facebook page, but we also have other groups that are extremely active in the community: - Hip Donelson Lost and Found Pets-Since its inception, this group has either assisted more than 800 lost pets in Donelson. The group is chaired by board members Marylee Locey and Derek Pence with help from an amazing number of volunteers who are available literally 24/7/365 to look for and provide safety for found and missing animals. The group not only provides thousands of hours of volunteer service annually, but also thousands of dollars for vet care for including spay/neuter, immunizations, and heartworm treatment (which can be in the thousands of dollars per animal). This is possible because of direct donations to the program and with the immeasurable support from local companies like Dr. Doug King and his staff at Elm Hill Veterinary Clinic and the folks at Pampered Pets, among many others in Donelson. - Hip Donelson Neighborhood Watch Network-Originally formed to help facilitate neighborhood watches in individual neighborhoods within Donelson, this page has also become a “go to” for information on current crimes and suspected issues within our community. The Hip Donelson Neighborhood Watch Program has also sponsored and hosted the Hip Donelson Night Out Against Crime for the past several years. - Hip Donelson Outdoors-This group promotes many of the outdoor activities around Donelson; we have more than ten miles of greenways in Donelson for everyone to enjoy, as well as miles of river access for water sports. - Hip Donelson Red Cross Partnership -Hip Donelson has established a special partnership with the Red Cross. This partnership provides financial assistance to those who have encountered an acute disaster (flood, fire, etc). Hip Donelson tries to pick up where the Red Cross stops. We have resources available to pay for limited housing assistance, food, clothing, etc. to those who experience an emergency in Donelson. Freedom of Speech/Expression... The First Amendments right to free speech only applies when the government is trying to restrict it. It does not apply to private citizens and entities. For instance, if you say something offensive in someones home, they can have you leave, similarly on our Facebook Group, we do the same. With the above being said, each of our members is expected to abide by our Terms of Service. Certainly, we cannot be all things to all people, but if you post on our page, you must agree to our Terms of Service hipdonelson.org/about/terms-of-service. Failure to comply with the TOS will result in the removal of the post and continued violation of our TOS could result in removal from Hip Donelson. Moderators…Currently, we have a group of twelve dedicated individuals who moderate the many pages of Hip Donelson. Moderators may or may not be on the Board of Directors. Moderating the pages is truly the one thankless volunteer job within the Hip Donelson organization. However, our membership has repeatedly expressed gratitude for not digging through classifieds, MLM opportunities, cursing, memes, or rants. The moderators save a copy of each post deleted (minus a few technical glitches here and there with mobile Facebook). The TOS are clear, it is up to each member to abide by them. It is not up to the moderators to contact each violator and explain the TOS. We continue to grow...We are looking forward to 2015 being our best year yet! Watch for renewed energy in the Hip D Supports Local program, the Farmers Market takes back off in May, there may be an oddball event or two tossed in, and most importantly, we will continue to invest in and grow our local communities and businesses.
