We were stalked by a pack of coyotes today at a favorite park in Burbank! I hadnt been there in over a year! My doggies had spotted the one by the hill. I thought maybe it was one of the deer we had seen on the way up. I couldnt see anything but I thought to bring the dogs close anyways. Martin said the the sound we were hearing were the coyotes communicating with each other but I wasnt convinced. It sounded somewhat like the coyotes up in the Sierra foothills but then I thought it also sounded like tires screeching. The ones I heard at the dog park the other day at Laurel Canyon clearly yelped like the ones up in the Sierra. Anyways as Im walking back to my car that is parked across the street I see what first looks like a big cat. Thought it walked too graceful for a dog. I stopped and focused. The coyote turns and is now staring at me. Im holding Abby my white little dog! The coyotes ears go up. Im thinking not to act frightened but to slow down. I see two men coming from across the street looking towards the coyote. The coyote is still watching me but when he sees the guys walking from the opposite direction he rushes across towards my car! Damn! I slow down. I see another truck pulling into the parking lot. I screamed to the man if he sees a coyote. He says the coyote ran into the hills just behind the lot. Then he tells me that Friday there were about 8 coyotes just running around that lot. I cant believe he said it like it was no big deal. City folk! hehe! . Ive had friends who have been confronted by coyotes. If they are hungry enough they have been known to go after larger dogs and even small children! Needless to say I wont be taking my doggies back there for a long time. Will have to stick to Kings Park.
