“We will stand here until the government does something,” says CK Janu, chairperson of the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha (AGMS), an umbrella organisation of tribals in Kerala. “We are not asking for anything new. We are asking the government to just keep their word and do what they have promised, right from 2001.” The AGMS wants the government to officially sanction the arable land set aside for tribals, execute the tribal rehabilitation package, stop encroaching into forest lands, put an end to apathy towards tribals, which has resulted in many suicides, and death from starvation.
