We worked for 45 min crossing the tarp... Gaining some coping skills... And relaxing... I made the mistake of leaving the stuff in there with him alone. Obviously his new set of tools hes learning are not second nature to him yet!... He was a mess after this for 30 min. Worked him again and then had him ponied around for another 20 before he calmed down. Although we got a good laugh, its one of the many reasons he isnt under saddle yet. When I start horses I start them throughly. (No I do not desensitize them into dullness nor do I take away their expression or fire... Its a balance...)I get all the holes & give them all the tools they need to handle situations like this but more importantly how to RECOVER quickly mentally from them. I do not expect to find everything, every horse will ever be worried about... But mental composure is key... No sense doing it on top of them if you cant do it beside them...
