We would like to remind you about the consultation process for an Irish Registry and Biobank for autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders. As diagnosis and prevalence of ASD and related neurodevelopmental disorders increase, a comprehensive registry is urgently needed to provide a clearer picture of the needs of the service users and how best their needs would be met. In planning for future services, this data will provide the necessary details to make decisions regarding budgets, training and recruitment. Furthermore early input and intervention has been shown to benefit everyone both physically, mentally and financially. To plan correctly, it is essential to have accurate up to date data from the actual population being served – ie Irish Service Users. The goal of the Irish Registry and Biobank for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders is to lead to advancements in understanding and treating autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and neurodevelopmental conditions, inform the development of services and facilitate future research.
