We would like you to meet this little guy, who weve named Reggie. He was rescued late on Saturday evening from a backyard where he was living with his sister and mamma under someones backyard deck. Reggie cannot walk. He appears to have had an accident or was a victim of animal cruelty this past Friday night. His injuries are quite extensive and appears to have a broken pelvis, at least one of his rear legs may be broken and the other rear leg is dislocated from the hip. His spine may be broken as well. He also has nerve damage to his legs, tail and lower spine. As a result he cannot walk but he can get around by dragging his back end. Due to the nerve damage, he cannot control his bowels or bladder. On top of all of this he has URI (Upper Respiratory Infection). Despite his injuries, he is eating and drinking well and he is very alert. He was quite feral when we first met him but now hes accepting love and comfort from us. Our first impression when we had a good look at him inside on Saturday night, was that his injuries were too severe to consider keeping in foster and that perhaps euthanasia was the kinder option. But when he ate the wet food and tuna with such gusto it was decided to wait and see what our vet said today. Reggies biggest challenge right now is the nerve damage to his bladder and bowels not all the broken bones. He unfortunately wouldnt be considered an adoptable cat if he couldnt control his litter box activities. We are hoping that much of the nerve damage is a result of localized edema and tissue damage. In order to more accurately diagnose his condition our vet needs to take several X-Rays. He is on meds now for the URI and for the edema which should help bring him some small amount of relief, in addition of course to now being inside where its warm and safe. At this time, there isnt enough money to cover X-Rays for this little guy so we are asking for donations to cover this cost. Please consider even a small donation to help us to mend his future. His sister, Rosie, was also rescued and they are bunking together in foster.
