Scandinavian Almond Bars • 1 3/4 cups of flour • 2 tsps baking powder • 1/2 cup butter • 1 cup sugar • 1 egg • 1 tsp almond extract • Milk • 1 c sliced almonds • 1 cup confectioners sugar • 2 tsp amaretto or 2-3 tsp milk and 1⁄4 tsp almond extract • 325 F • Stir together flour, baking powder and pinch of salt • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and extract.Beat well • Add flour mixture and beat until well mixed. • Divide dough into fourths • Form each portion into a 12 inch roll. Place two rolls on ungreased cookie sheet Flatten with hands until it is about 3 inches wide. • Brush roll with a little milk and sprinkle on almonds • Bake 12-14 minutes or until just golden on edges. • While still warm, cut into one inch strips crosswise. • When cool, drizzle with icing.
