Weather Update Fort Kent Maine & the Upper St. John Valley 9:25 AM EDT | Sunday, 20 October 2013 Weather Discussion An occluded front is moving northwards across the region this morning bringing rain across the SJV region. Current radar shows light to moderate pockets of activity running NE through the area. At present, 0.13 inches of precipitation has been recorded in Fort Kent. The occlusion is expected to move east of the region by early afternoon with clearing skies this afternoon. SE winds will increase to around 12 to 14 mph and shift to the west this afternoon. Cold air advection will carry chillier air into the Valley as lows dip into the middle 30s--winds will decrease to 10-12 mph overnight, though they may make the conditions feel cooler than they are. High pressure builds in for Monday, which looks to be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 50s. Light westerly winds will shift towards the south in the evening. Clouds will be on the increase as the day progresses as another occluded front approaches from the Great Lakes. Lows Monday night are expected to fall into the upper 30s with thickening clouds. Rain reaches the region early Tuesday and will linger for much of the day as the front traverses the region. Breezy conditions will see winds running around 10-12 mph with rainfall amounts of up to 0.25 inches possible. Southerly winds will produce some warm air advection helping the high temperature to reach the middle 50s. Rain winds down later Tuesday as the front clears the region and allows high pressure to build in once more. Lows Tuesday night should fall into the middle 30s. At present, under high pressure, Wednesday looks sunny with chillier conditions as highs are only expected to top out in the upper 40s to around 50F. Lows Wednesday night are expected in the upper 20s. The late week weather is uncertain at this point due to a coastal low projected to form off the Carolinas whose exact track is uncertain at present. More on this feature will be made in the weather reports as the week progresses.
