Webometric, the power of UMP’s Internationalization To promote University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) as World Class University, International Office of UMP held a workshop in FKIP building on Saturday, 21st august 2013. It was related to the improvement of UMP’s website rank into Webometric. Webometric is website that eligible and trusted to see the rank of universities based on its activities in the website. It becomes one of the qualified and transparent agents showing to the public about the rank, classification and scoring of all the universities around the globe. It was Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonged to Consejo Seperior de Investigationes Cientificas (CSIS) as the biggest research board in Spain that initiate to create the system. CSIS is the initial board which conducts the research in Europe; in 2006 it consisted of 126 centers and department in Spain. Ipan pranashakti, a lecturer from UII Jogjakarta, leaded the workshop from 08.00 until 12.00. He described a lot about Webometric, factor/parameters to achieve better level in this site, organization of the web, until tips and trick to publish link inside or outside of UMP’s web. The workshop was followed by many participants from many divisions of UMP, such as faculties, departments, offices, centers, library etc. To be in top 10 of Webometric is not an easy job. “All component of university should work together to have better rank in Webometric” he said in the middle of presentation. He said that many of universities’ webs were still lack of good criteria of the web. He mentioned some, such as keyword, it is a simple thing but many are neglected to this. In addition, lecturers should create climate of teaching and learning through internet. Blog is the easiest way to build backlink and refereed link. “Students are facilitated with hotspot everywhere, with abundant of high speed access, we can request them to create blog or connect to the lecturers’ blog” he stated in the explanation. UMP expects much with this kind of workshop, it boosts the motivation to the UMP’s staffs about the importance of Webometric to role of Internationalization of UMP as well as to support of all level in university in creating international atmosphere through website. It should be supported by all component of university, therefore UMP may become better World Class University all the time.
