Andi and Michael filled up the cake tray and made cupcakes for everyone. Transitions happen after the children have had their free play and have helped tidy up the room, this helps the children to have a quiet moment to re-focus to listen to their educators before going to wash their hands before lunch. Today’s transition was enjoyed so much by the children as Grace found a movie on a garbage truck and how the garbage it is collected. Leila says to Grace the garbage truck is cute” the children all seemed very interested in this little garbage truck and its adventures, after the movie all the children got involved in singing and clapping along to the alphabet song with their educators to then go off and wash their hands . Platypus Room Update: Today in the Platypus room a small group of children began to engage in recognition of written texts. All the children have their names written in foundation trace print on to a laminated piece of paper. This is the beginnings of learning to write our names. Using a whiteboard marker the children trace over their name. As educators we provide activities to encourage learning. This is a wonderful activity to get us all writing. Working on our pincer grip and hand/eye coordination. Emu/Kangaroo Room Update: This morning at rotating group times the children had the opportunity to participate in several different groups. Maggie had a weaving group, where the children were asked to weave pieces of paper through a piece of cardboard. Jess played a game of “What’s the time Mr Wolf”. Deanna spent time conversing with the children about plants and what we need to grow them. Crystal played a boat game with the children. Jazzy focused on technology with the children showing the children different types of frogs on the internet. Yolanda held a numeracy group with the children. Cameron had a literacy group; he focused on encouraging the children writing certain letters of the alphabet. This afternoon the children were very excited about the show that came to Columba Cottage. Today we had the Bob Turner Wildlife Show come to the centre. As the children were talking this morning they were having conversations about what type of animals we would get to see, if we would get to touch them and what sort of food they eat. The children had a fabulous time interacting with the animals and watching his show thanks Bob Turner.
