Wednesday, 17 July 2013 14:00 Jon Targets First Goal Written by Neil Smith Jon Daly took a break from training to speak to RangersTV at the Klosterpforte Hotel Jon Daly took a break from training to speak to RangersTV at the Klosterpforte Hotel JON DALY is hoping Rangers can continue to build momentum this evening when they take on FC Gutersloh and that he can play his part by netting his first goal for the club. Daly has been delighted with his side’s three friendly victories against Brora, Elgin and Bristol City so far and not conceding any goals has been an added bonus. At the other end of the pitch Lewis Macleod has three goals to his name with Fraser Aird bagging the other at Borough Briggs but Daly hopes tonight can be the night he finds the net. The powerful striker scored more than 70 goals for Dundee United before agreeing to make the switch to Rangers on May 24 and is confident he will get off the mark for the Light Blues sooner rather than later. Speaking to Rangers TV from the Klosterpforte Hotel in Marienfeld he said: “I probably should have scored against Elgin. I’ve been critical of myself, I had a couple of chances there and should have done better. “But with games that will come, at the moment I’m not too concerned. If I keep getting myself in positions I’ll score, at the moment it’s just all about getting fitness levels up and getting ready for the start of the season. “I’ve enjoyed the games so far, they’ve been good run outs for us. “I’m just looking forward to getting into the competitive games and getting the season underway.” Daly knew when he joined Rangers that it was a massive club but admits he didn’t realise just how big an institution it is and how passionate the fans are. As always hundreds of diehard supporters from Scotland are expected to travel to the 12,500 capacity Heidewaldstadion for tonight’s friendly against Gutersloh and they will be joined by armed services personel from the Princess Royal Barracks based in the city. Many of them are also Rangers fans and have been at the side of the training pitches at the Klosterpforte watching the players hard at work as they prepare for the new season. Daly can’t wait to play at Ibrox for the first time but he admits to be being blown away by the number of Bluenoses that follow the team on their travels. He said: “I think it was Nicky Law that said it before, until you come to the club you don’t realise how big it is. “I knew it was a massive but until you are in the inside you see the size of the club. “It was a great support that we had down at Bristol, almost 3,000 fans followed us down. That was fantastic and it gives the friendly that competitive edge. “It was great to win and get into that winning habit; hopefully we can now continue that.” watp....shiz
