Wednesday December 17, 2014 The Boy from Benton Street: Mackenzie King and Berlin/Kitchener Lecture Kitchener Public Library Theatre, 85 Queen Street North, Kitchener Time: Doors open at 6:30pm, presentation begins at 7:00pm On December 17, 1874, a child of the future was born in a small cottage atop the Benton Street hill in Berlin. Exactly 140 years later, that event and the youngsters next 16 or so years in Berlin will be examined in the first of an annual series of lectures being presented on the life of William Lyon Mackenzie King. Noted Canadian historian John English will begin the series with this lecture. He will examine how Kings formative years influenced his later political philosophies and style. The lecture series is presented by The Mackenzie King Kitchener-Waterloo Legacy Network, a recently formed group of local citizens whose aim is to increase awareness of Canadas longest-serving prime minister in his hometown, and by the Kitchener Public Library. Admission is free. There is underground parking off Queen Street at the south side of the library.
