Wednesday Devotional - 6/5/13 "Extraordinary Circumstances" We all have a testimony in some form or another. Some testimonies are sweet and simple—not a lot of hoopla, for lack of a better word—and for others it is quite extraordinary. Nevertheless, however we come to the cross, we all have an amazing story to tell. Life wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be; it was spinning out of control and headed for disaster. I was living in Southern California and Rod was in Northern California; yet, in two different churches and in two different cities, despite our rebellion, we accepted Jesus. Talk about a night of extraordinary circumstances—because of the cross we have hope for our future! In Isaiah 53 we see evidence of God’s greatest love—His promises of restoration and redemption for His people. Isaiah not only spoke to his generation, but held fast the hope of the coming Messiah for all. Isaiah prophesied of God’s greatest purpose for us by laying a foundation of hope for the future. Jesus Christ fulfilled these Old Testament prophecies, and so Paul was able to write in First Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures
” Today, He shows us His great love through the fulfillment of His Word completed by the death and resurrection of Jesus at the cross. God’s ability and willingness to save and restore us goes beyond any human rebellion. He wants good things for us all and for the destiny of our lives to be fulfilled as we are drawn to the cross. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Thanks to Christ’s completed work on the cross there is hope today, an eternal hope for us all, as we take hold of faith’s reality—the risen Lord!
